Panthers' Smith a smart Week 11 play
Panthers' Smith a smart Week 11 play
UPDATED: 11/14/2012

In "Exploit or Avoid," we take a close look at some of the week's more favorable — and tough — matchups for skill-position players. Here's who we like on each side of the ledger in Week 11:

EXPLOIT

Panthers WR Steve Smith (vs. Tampa Bay) —
Fantasy owners need to ignore Smith's one-catch output from last Sunday when considering Smith's prospects for this Sunday. Smith already has one strong game vs. the Buccaneers to his credit (seven catches, 106 yards in Week One), and if anything, the Bucs' defense is more vulnerable than it was in September. Fantasy owners giving Smith another shot should relish the opportunity, not fear it. He's capable of a nice bounce-back performance.

Texans QB Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson (vs. Jacksonville) — Time for me to dust off the old "Play your Texans passing-game players against a defense shaky vs. the run" angle. Well, actually, it's not that old; I used it two weeks ago against Buffalo, and it worked fairly well. Schaub threw for 268 yards and a pair of TDs, including a long one to TE Owen Daniels off of … drum roll … play-action, which could work very well this week against a Jaguars defense that surely hasn't forgotten surrendering a season-worst 216 yards on the ground to Houston in Week Two. If Daniels (hip) can play in Week 11, he's a must-start. Johnson, too, is tough to sit. Schaub's stock also gets a boost this week. I love this angle, by the way.

Dolphins RBs Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas (at Buffalo) — In Week 10, the Bills allowed 117 yards rushing to the Patriots. That was their second-best effort from a rushing yards allowed perspective this season. I'm all for starting Bush this week, even after just four carries, a fumble and a benching in the disappointing loss to Tennessee on Sunday. Not only did Bush rack up 203 rushing yards in the Dolphins' win at Buffalo last December, but he had a TD in both games vs. the Bills in 2011. Thomas is also a reasonable flex option in big leagues.
