First it was the benching of three-time Pro Bowler DT Tommie Harris and then DE Mark Anderson, who was tendered at the second-round level ($1.759 million) as a restricted free agent in March, was released and replaced by Charles Grant in a surprise move. While head coach Lovie Smith has said he always has held players accountable during his tenure, some in the organization, including longtime Bear Charles Tillman and GM Jerry Angelo, admitted that things are being handled differently this season. "Maybe there were some assumptions being made in our evaluations that weren't necessarily accurate and maybe some players got into a little bit of a comfort level," Angelo said when discussing the team's failure to make it back to the postseason since Super Bowl XLI. The comments were made in a radio interview before the team's Week Four game. That comfort level is fading quickly, however, and some players are on alert, wondering what move could be next.
