49ers WR Ginn Jr. to miss at least two weeks
UPDATED: 09/14/2010

49ers WR Ted Ginn Jr. sprained his MCL in the team's season-opening loss to the Seahawks last Sunday and will likely be out at least two weeks.

Ginn Jr. had one catch for 19 yards before leaving the game with the injury. The 49ers signed WR Jason Hill, who spent the last three seasons in San Francisco before being cut prior to this season.

Ginn Jr. was brought in to be a deep threat and return specialist for the 49ers after a disappointing season with the Dolphins.

The way we see it

QB Alex Smith threw for 225 yards but also tossed two interceptions in a brutal 31-6 loss to the Seahawks. Ginn Jr. is expected to help a passing offense that clearly still needs work. Hill did haul in 30 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns in 2008, so he has some experience, but he is a big drop-off from Ginn Jr.'s big-play abilities.
