49ers' first-rounders earn mixed reviews

As awful as the 49ers performed in their jaw-dropping 31-6 upset loss to Seattle in Week One — the second-worst season-opening loss in franchise history — at least they found some consolation in the play of first-round ORT Anthony Davis, one of the few players to genuinely earn his first-week paycheck. "The offensive line was horrible for the most part, but even though he was called for a false-start penalty and gave up a late sack, he displayed some real flashes," a daily team observer said of Davis after suffering through a second viewing of the nightmarish opener on tape. "He is so quick out of his stance! I've never really seen anything like it. Once he learns the pro game, he could be something." Fellow first-round OLG Mike Iupati's opening-game performance, however, was something altogether different. "He hardly ever got to the second level, and when he did, he'd leave too early," the observer said.
