Giants rookie D-linemen wait to make impact
Giants rookie D-linemen wait to make impact
UPDATED: 09/16/2010

The Giants spent their first two draft picks in April on DE Jason Pierre-Paul and DT Linval Joseph, a clear indication they wanted to upgrade their pass rush and run-stopping force. It's not a shock, however, that the pair is off to a slow start. Pierre-Paul made two tackles in the opener, at times lining up in the Giants' "NASCAR" package that features DEs Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Mathias Kiwanuka and Pierre-Paul all on the field at the same time, typically in passing situations. Although the Giants know Pierre-Paul is raw, they like his willingness to learn as well as do whatever the coaches need. He was a late fill-in on special teams in Week One and did not embarrass himself, despite not playing there a lot in the preseason. But Joseph was a surprise inactive in Week One, something Tom Coughlin said the rookie was none too happy about. "You like it like that," Coughlin said. The Giants eventually expect to find a game-day spot for Joseph, who can play nose tackle and hold the point of attack well.
