Lions WR Calvin Johnson stole Aaron Rodgers’ red-zone thunder with his second TD catch of the game in the closing moments of the second quarter to bring Detroit within seven points at 21-14. Rodgers’ brilliance inside the 20-yard line was on display with a pair of picturesque TD strikes to TE Jermicheal Finley and WR Greg Jennings. But the Lions hung tough, with QB Shaun Hill maintaining his poise and moving the offense effectively despite a barrage of penalties by the Lions, who finished the fist half with nine flags thrown against them.
The quarter began with the Lions tying the game at 7-7 with Johnson’s 22-yard TD catch culminating an eight-play, 65-yard scoring drive. But then Rodgers took center stage with his TD passes to Finley and Jennings, as well as a 48-yard pass after escaping trouble to a wide-open Donald Driver to set up Jennings’ score.
Packers starting rookie SS Morgan Burnett left the game with a knee injury for x-rays with his return to the game considered questionable. LB Clay Matthews registered his seventh sack of the season, and DE Ryan Pickett had a fumble recovery for Green Bay.
