Colts' McAfee a weapon in the kicking game
Colts' McAfee a weapon in the kicking game

With all the star power on both sides of the ball in Indy, it's no surprise that P Pat McAfee doesn't receive many accolades, but his early-season success handling kickoff duties for the Colts is deserving of praise. After tying PK Adam Vinatieri's franchise record of five touchbacks in a Week Two win over the Giants at home, McAfee boomed six touchbacks in six attempts in the thin air in Denver. The way we hear it, McAfee, who was a placekicker at the University of West Virginia, is viewed as a major weapon by the Colts, both as a punter and kickoff specialist. A "laid-back jokester who doesn't take himself too seriously," according to a daily team observer, McAfee is also a great fit in the Colts' locker room. Although McAfee is not considered a long-term answer kicking field goals — Vinatieri's contract expires at the end of the season — the Colts love his versatility and he could be used in an emergency.
