UPDATED: 09/30/2010

Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO (America's Union Movement) offered to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith to help mediate negotiations as the two sides discuss a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In a letter obtained by the Associated Press on Thursday, Trumka said it would be an "immediate and important" step to saving the 2011 NFL season.

Trumka is asking both Goodell and Smith to be forthcoming with information to facilitate discussions. He wants Smith to provide details about player salaries, pensions and health care benefits. Trumka wants Goodell to provide access to the profit or loss statements, expenses and additional financial information about NFL teams.
