Raiders sign FB Schmitt
UPDATED: 05/15/2012

The Raiders have signed former Eagles FB Owen Schmitt to a one-year contract after a tryout Tuesday, the team announced.

Schmitt played for Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp in Seattle, which selected him in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. He played the past two seasons in Philadelphia.

The four-year veteran has played in 51 games, with 12 starts. As primarily a blocking back, he has only nine rushing attempts for 27 yards and 34 receptions for 218 yards and two touchdowns.

Marcel Reece, who has started 26 games at fullback for Oakland over the past two seasons, hasn’t signed his exclusive-rights free-agent tender and hasn’t participated in the team’s voluntary workouts.
