"I don't know what it is that he does, but it's something that he's doing that really gets under my skin," Umenyiora was quoted as saying Friday on Comcast SportsNet New England. "Because I'm not that type of player, you know what I mean? He's probably the only person I've ever fought on a football field."
The report mentioned two previous fights between Umenyiora and Light, which is unusual, according to Giants DE Justin Tuck, since Umenyiora "is not a fighter."
Umenyiora hinted that he might try to goad Light into a fight during the Super Bowl.
"I think he's more important to his team than I am to mine right now," Umenyiora said. "So, if we can both fight, we both get kicked out, and (DE Jason Pierre-Paul) and Tuck will have a field day."
Patriots RB Kevin Faulk dismissed the importance of Umenyiora's comments, mentioning that Umenyiora called Light a dirty player before New York and New England last met in the Super Bowl.
"He tried to pull the same thing the last time," Faulk said of Umenyiora, "so it ain’t relevant to us right now. We’re going to play football. Whatever he’s talking about, that’s (expletive)."
