No settlement coming between Vilma, NFL
No settlement coming between Vilma, NFL
UPDATED: 08/09/2012

No settlement will be reached between Saints LB Jonathan Vilma and the NFL before Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported.

U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan is expected to rule on Vilma’s request for a temporary restraining order of his yearlong suspension on Friday. The decision also will impact Will Smith, Scott Fujita and Anthony Hargrove, the three other players suspended for their roles in the Saints’ bounty program.

Last month, Vilma went before Judge Berrigan asking for a TRO while his defamation lawsuit against commissioner Roger Goodell proceeds.

ESPN reported last week that the NFL offered to reduce Vilma’s suspension to eight games on the condition that Vilma drop his lawsuit against Goodell. The league has denied that a settlement deal was offered.
