UPDATED: 11/12/2012

The Panthers fired special-teams coordinator Brian Murphy and replaced him with Richard Rodgers, the team’s assistant special-teams coach.

Head coach Ron Rivera said he relieved Murphy over “philosophical differences.” Rivera played with Rodgers at the University of California.

The Panthers allowed a 76-yard punt return for a touchdown to Broncos PR Trindon Holliday in Sunday’s loss. Heading into Week 10, the Panhters were tied for 30th in punt returns and last in gross and net punting average.
