The players involved in the Saints’ bounty case rejected a settlement offer, according to multiple reports.

ESPN reported that the offer required some “acknowledgment of culpability” by the players — Jonathan Vilma, Will Smith, Scott Fujita and Anthony Hargrove. 

Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue was appointed to hear the appeal, and is expected to make a decision in the next few days. The players have reportedly been satisfied with Tagliabue, who allowed the players to cross-examine witnesses.

The offer involved reducing Hargrove’s suspension to two games (originally seven) and fine Smith four game checks — Smith was originally suspended for four games. Vilma’s year-long suspension would be left up to Tagliabue, assuming Vilma dropped his defamation suit against Roger Goodell.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, other settlement terms also included the players having to do “PSA-type activities and/or speak at the annual rookie symposium.”
