Redskins announce Cousins to start Sunday
UPDATED: 12/15/2012

The Redskins announced Saturday evening that rookie Kirk Cousins will be the starting quarterback in the team’s Week 15 game against the Browns.

QB Robert Griffin III left last Sunday’s game with a sprained LCL in his right knee. When RG3 left the game, Cousins replaced him and threw a touchdown, then scored the game-tying two-point conversion on a QB draw.

It’s unclear if Griffin or veteran Rex Grossman will serve as Cousins’ backup in Sunday’s game.

Griffin has thrown 18 touchdowns and four interceptions. He is also the team’s second-leading rusher, with 748 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. Cousins, a fourth-round pick, has completed 7-of-11 passes for 137 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions this season.

The 7-6 Redskins are one game back of the NFC’s second wild-card spot.
