UPDATED: 01/17/2013

The Broncos promoted Adam Gase to offensive coordinator, the team announced Thursday.

Gase replaces Mike McCoy, who was named the new head coach of the Chargers on Tuesday.

For the past two seasons, Gase was the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach. From 2009-10, Gase coached the Broncos’ wide receivers. He has spent eight seasons in the NFL, with stops in San Francisco and Detroit.

Former Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt was rumored to be a potential replacement for McCoy, along with Tom Moore, who was Peyton Manning’s offensive coordinator in Indianapolis.
