Redskins' Torain tries to shed injury label
Redskins' Torain tries to shed injury label
UPDATED: 10/09/2010

Injuries have been the story of young Redskins RB Ryan Torain's career. And now that he has a starting opportunity with Clinton Portis out 4-6 weeks, Torain must prove he can stay in the lineup. In his first extended action, Torain showed power and burst with the team against the Rams and Eagles and certainly opened a few eyes in the process. He had a strong summer but failed to make the team out of training camp, having to prove himself all over. Mike Shanahan had Torain in Denver and the 24-year-old earned a starting spot but carried over an "injury-prone" tag from college (when he missed seven games his senior year). Torain missed time in two stretches as a rookie with the Broncos in 2008, with his season ending after a torn ACL. Now he gets his best opportunity to date and has the chance to earn a spot for good. Portis by no means has an iron lock on the starting job even when he comes back healthy.
