Report: Lions president Lewand has suspension reduced
UPDATED: 09/14/2010

Lions team president Tom Lewand will be reinstated Wednesday, nine days earlier than originally stipulated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

A league source told mlive.com that Lewand received a letter from Goodell informing him that his 30-day suspension for violating the league personal conduct policy has been shortened.

Lewand pleaded guilty on July 9 for driving while impaired, two weeks after being pulled over for driving erratically near a bar in northern Michigan. He was sentenced to six months of probation, and Goodell suspended Lewand, fining him $100,000.

The source said Goodell reduced the suspension because Lewand has taken the necessary steps to prevent a recurrence.
