Washington bolsters Seahawks' biggest strength
Washington bolsters Seahawks' biggest strength
UPDATED: 10/01/2010

With the addition of Leon Washington, who almost singlehandedly beat the Chargers in Seattle's Week Three victory with a pair of electrifying kickoff returns for TDs of 101 and 99 yards, special teams continue to be the Seahawks' biggest strength. "They were excellent on special teams last year with both (PK) Olindo Mare and (P) Jon Ryan doing really well, and now they've got the league's top kick returner (in Washington)," one daily team observer said. "(New special-teams coach Brian) Schneider is very gung-ho, and he has allowed (assistant special-teams coach and former 49er) Jeff Ulbrich to have a great deal of input. That's a big deal because it shows that there's not a whole lot of ego on this coaching staff, and that's a key to strong special-teams play. You could also see it in the way Washington insisted that his blockers get credit (for his TD returns vs. San Diego)."
