The UFL might as well be deferring to RB Cory Ross to promote its product; the diminuitive back is working hard to affirm the cliché "big things come in small packages."

Ross had a big game last night in the Redwoods 20-13 victory over the Sentinels with 142 all-purpose yards on 30 touches. The highlight of the 5-foot-6 back's night was a 25-yard touchdown pass from QB Shane Boyd to lead off the scoring.

Ross, like many others in the UFL, boasts some NFL playing experience. He was a member of the Ravens during the 2006 and '07 seasons, although he only saw action in ten games throughout the two seasons, mainly as a return specialist. Nonetheless, when he did get a chance to carry the ball — in Week Seventeen of the Ravens 5-11 '07 season — he made the most of it, rushing for 12-72-1. He did, however, have three fumbles in that two-year span.

The Redwoods are doing their best to keep pace with the undefeated Tuskers, whose team boasts the most recognizable names in the UFL. Tuskers RB Tatum Bell even said recently that he's convinced that his team could beat the Buccaneers.

"I think that's how confident we are as a team," Bell was quoted in The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times. "We feel like we can go out there and play with some of the best of them. There's a lot of savvy vets that have a lot to prove to everyone. I think that's what also makes the talent in the league so high, everyone is trying to prove something."

And I'm not exactly sure if it's a compliment to the Tuskers or a slap in the face for the Bucs, but I wouldn't argue with that until I saw it play out.
